(January 11, 2017, Hong Kong) Organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy (“AFA Academy”), the Asian Film Awards (“AFA”) will celebrate its 11th anniversary this year. For this edition, 73 nominations have been made for 15 awards. The nominations represent 34 films from 12 countries. World-renowned Chinese director Mr. JIA Zhangke will serve as this year’s Jury President and lead a jury comprising charismatic celebrity juror Ms. Karena LAM Kar-yan, and respected film industry professionals, festival programmers and critics.

Financially supported by Create Hong Kong and Film Development Fund, the 11th Asian Film Awards will return to Hong Kong on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR Government, and will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on March 21, 2017 (Tuesday).

Over the past year the AFA Academy has collaborated with different countries and regions to educate and nurture the next generation for the movie industry. It has hosted different activities, such as Masterclasses, Asian Cinerama – Film Roadshows, Journey to the Fest – Student Visit to Film Festivals and Young Film Professionals Program. From Hong Kong to different cities and international film festivals including Tokyo, Busan, Hawaii, Kyoto, Chennai, Taipei, Berlin, etc., the Academy endeavours to promote Asian film industry and culture all over the world.

(March 3, 2016, Hong Kong) Organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy, sponsored by Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao and The Venetian® Macao and with Cotai Water Jet as the official ferry operator, the 10th Asian Film Awards (AFA) will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran Hong Kong action choreographer-director YUEN Wo-ping and venerable Japanese actress KIKI Kirin at the AFA Ceremony on March 17, 2016 (Thursday) at The Venetian Theatre at The Venetian Macao, one of the most luxurious entertainment venues in Greater China. Previous AFA Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Korean director IM Kwon-taek, Taiwanese director HOU Hsiao-hsien, Hong Kong director Ann HUI, Hong Kong producer Raymond CHOW, Indian actor Amitabh BACHCHAN and Japanese director YAMADA Yoji. The AFA’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes film professionals who inspire excellence in others, and in their lifetimes have made fundamental achievements and a lasting impact of outstanding artistic, cultural and commercial significance in Asian cinema.

Monster Hunt has emerged as the highest-grossing Asian film of 2015 and will receive the AFA’s award for Highest-Grossing Asian Film of the year at the 10th Asian Film Awards (AFA) at The Venetian® Macao on March 17, 2016. The film is also competing for the “Best Visual Effects” and “Best Sound” in the coming awards ceremony.

The 3D fantasy adventure film set in a world of humans and monsters is a skillful mix of live action and animation directed by Hong Kong-born Raman HUI who made his reputation in Hollywood with the Shrek franchise for DreamWorks Animation; and produced by Bill KONG, who has scored many successes globally with films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and renowned film production and costume designer YEE Chung-man. The film also features a star-studded cast from Hong Kong and Mainland China, including BAI Baihe, JING Boran, Eric TSANG Chi-wai, Sandra NG Kwan-yu, JIANG Wu, YAN Ni, TANG Wei, Wallace CHUNG Hon-leung, and YAO Chen.

The director said that the message of his tale of war and love between humans and monsters is "to understand differences, to see the world through others’ eyes and to foster more understanding between people and groups," a theme of acceptance that was welcomed at the box office.

All these honors have distinguished him as a remarkable artist, a master of cinema whose intensely Korean works have universal resonance.

Hong Kong, February 25, 2015 – The Asian Film Awards Academy (AFA Academy) announced the 74 nominations of 42 films from eight countries standing for the 9th Asian Film Awards (AFA) at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong this afternoon. Internationally acclaimed film director and producer Ms. Mabel CHEUNG Yuen-ting has been appointed as this year’s AFA Jury President and established leading man Mr. Aaron KWOK Fu-shing will serve as a Celebrity Jury member. The jury comprises 14 respected film industry professionals and critics who will select outstanding Asian works of the year to be recognized by one of the most prestigious film awards in the world today.

Sponsored by Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao and The Venetian® Macao and with Cotai Water Jet as the Official Ferry Operator, the 9th Asian Film Awards will be held at The Venetian Theatre, one of the most luxurious entertainment venues in Greater China, on March 25, 2015 (Wednesday).

The AFA recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Asian films through 14 award categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer, Best Screenwriter, Best Cinematographer, Best Production Designer, Best Composer, Best Editor, Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Designer.

(28 March 2014, Macau) The 8th Asian Film Awards (AFA) was held yesterday, at the City of Dreams in Macau. The Asian Film Awards Academy (AFA Academy) made the monumental decision of moving the prestigious awards ceremony from Hong Kong to Macau this year. A total of 14 awards and the Lifetime Achievement Award, the night’s most prestigious award, were presented by screen stars, celebrities and artistes of the industry.

Distinguished director Mr Peter Ho-sun Chan led the jury panel as the jury president. The jury panel was made up of experienced film professionals from all over Asia and included celebrity jurors Mr Donnie Yen and Ms Carina Lau. The jury panel was tasked to examine the works of all the nominees and voted to decide the winner of each category.

Mr  Wong Kar Wai’s martial arts film, THE GRANDMASTER, topped the AFA nominees’ list with 11 nominations out of 14 categories and scooped up the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Production Designer, Best Composer and Best Costume Designer, while Zhang Zi yi was also crowned the Best Actress with her remarkable performance in the movie. Indian actor Irrfan Khan with THE LUNCHBOX won Best Actor, and the film also claimed the Best Screenwriter. The incredible acting skills of HUANG Bo and YEO Yann Yann earned them Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards for their roles in NO MAN’S LAND and ILO ILO, while JIANG Shuying from SO YOUNG won for Best Newcomer. The 8th Asian Film Awards Academy conferred the Life-Time Achievement Award on Taiwanese celebrated director Hou Hsiao-hsien for his contribute to the film industry.
