(Hong Kong, 24th March 2010) The 8th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) announced the winners for the HAF Awards, the Wouter Barendrecht Award, the Technicolor Asia Award, and the Paris Project Award, at a ceremony held at the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre today. 

The HAF Awards this year went to The Enchanter by KWOK Tsz-kin for a project originating in Hong Kong, and Twins (The Philippines) by Sherad Anthony SANCHEZ, for a project originating outside of Hong Kong. Both films were awarded cash prizes of HK$150,000 each.

A total of 14 awards were presented at the glamorous event with South Korea leading in wins

(Hong Kong, 22nd March, 2010) Mother, the South Korean thriller by BONG Joon-ho was awarded Best Film at the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA), held on 22nd March 2010 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is the second win for Director BONG Jooh-ho for Mother at the Asian Film Awards.

Mother also claimed awards for Best Actress and Best Screenwriter. South Korea took home the most awards, a total of six including Best Film, Best Actress, Best Newcomer, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenwriter, and Best Visual Effects.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan recognised for ground breaking achievement in the arts

(Hong Kong, 12 March, 2010) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) today announced that the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA) will present one of India’s most acclaimed actors, Amitabh Bachchan, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bachchan will accept the AFA Lifetime Achievement Award in person at the 4th Asian Film Awards Ceremony in Hong Kong on 22nd March, 2010. The last recipient of the AFA Lifetime Achievement Award was Japanese director Yamada Yoji in 2008.

[Hong Kong, 24 February 2010 ] The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) today announced that the 8th HAF, which will be held from 22th to 24th March, 2010, will present a new award dedicated to the memory of the late Wouter BARENDRECHT, the co-founder of the HAF.

The Wouter Barendrecht Award commemorates BARENDRECHT’s contribution to both the HAF and Asian cinema. An internationally renowned film producer and founder of Fortissimo Films, BARENDRECHT was credited with helping a generation of Asian filmmakers such as WONG Kar-wai and IWAI Shunji to reach a global audience.

This new award, worth HK$50,000, will be funded by the Wouter Barendrecht Film Foundation and the Film Development Fund, and will go towards promoting nascent filmmaking talents in Asia. It is open to the HAF projects led by directors who have made less than three films, with the winner selected by the Foundation’s representatives.

New award recognises Asian film costume design talent

(Hong Kong, 22nd February, 2010) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) today announced that renowned fashion icon Donatella VERSACE will be presenting the Best Costume Designer Award at the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA). The award is a new addition to the AFA this year to recognise the work of Asian costume designers in cinema.

Donatella VERSACE, Vice President and Creative Director of the Versace Group, is a giant in the fashion industry. Respected worldwide as an authority in design, she was made Honorary Chairwoman for London’s Fashion Fringe in 2008 and 2009, an industry event to uncover upcoming designer talent.
